Day ONE
Gummy Smile Day
Course Description:
The "Gummy Smile Treatment: Comprehensive Approach" course provides dental
professionals with a comprehensive understanding of gummy smile assessment, diagnosis,
and treatment options. Participants will gain a clear view of the various causes of gummy
smiles and learn about the latest advancements in treatment techniques and strategies.
Through lectures, case studies, hands-on exercises, and live surgery demonstrations,
attendees will develop the skills to diagnose and treat gummy smiles effectively, ultimately
enhancing their ability to deliver optimal results.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the different etiologies and contributing factors that lead to a gummy smile.
- Understand the principles of smile analysis and its relevance in treatment planning for
gummy smile correction.
- Understand the Biological principles involved in the precision and long-term stability of
surgery and treatment.
- Learn about various surgical techniques, including gingivectomy, crown lengthening flap
and flapless, lip repositioning with Biovolumes, and the indication of orthognathic surgery
and orthodontic intrusion for gummy smile correction.
- Develop protocol in communication to discuss treatment options, risks, and predictability
effectively.
- Understand the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration when managing complex
gummy smile cases.

The quality and design of the tissues surrounding implants are essential not only for long-term maintenance but also fundamental for aesthetic purposes.
Delivering “pink-free” restorative solutions over implants requires the full presence of the gingival contour, natural emergence profile, and respect for the aesthetic proportion ratio of crowns and bridges. Achieving the perfect balance between pink and white contour is a Key point.
Extractions can present an outstanding initial tissue-contouring situation for Immediacy. In these cases, preserving the gingival “frame” is the goal of our treatment. But much more than the basic… Knowledge of peri-implant remodeling after extraction, abutment/provisional biology and design, and minor surgical maneuvers can enhance aesthetic results and long-term tissue stability.
In cases of soft tissue deficiency around Osseointegrated functional implants, the surgeon must be prepared to identify, classify, and establish the appropriate technique to fix the phenotype and redesign the aesthetic contour to achieve ideal framing. Also, when the maintenance of the old implant is not ideal, the surgeon must know how to develop a strategy to replace the implant and/or create a Healed site that allows the full reconstruction.
